The birthday campout hadn't quite gone as planned, but it had fueled Lexi and Gobo's friendship enough that, when the idea of a do-over came up, Lexi ultimately agreed to it. After all, she'd only spent a few hours outside on Gobo's birthday. That had been over a week ago, too.

And the first day of the trip hadn't been too bad, she had to admit. They'd picked a different place this time, a spot outside the Other Duckburg where Louie had suggested there might be arrowheads to be found that she could sell for a pretty good price. Sure, the craggy landscape had left Lexi a little concerned about sleeping comfortable, but once she was in her sleeping bag that night, she'd actually been out like a light.

She slept in late the next morning, too, even through several minutes of someone calling her for help... But when the cries did get through to her mind, she awoke with a jolt.

"Gobo? Oh man!" She scrambled out of the sleeping bag and made her way toward the source. It couldn't have just been a relaxed, lucrative little trip, now could it? Great.

"What, you mean like without feathers or fur?" He giggled a bit; her finger tickled.

"Yeah, people like Bridge and Daniel definitely improved when they got their forms like us."

"Yeah, I'd say so," Lexi agreed, pulling her hand away. "Hey, I gotta ask - how'd you even end up in that tar pit?"

Once she was done investigating, he folded his arm with the other underneath his chin again.

"I wasn't looking where I was going. I couldn't tell that was a ridge with a drop so early in the morning; the sun hadn't even come all the way up yet. So, over and down I went."

She nodded at that explanation.

"Flashlights. I know they're not very Fraggleish, I guess, but you should have flashlights."

[gobetween]

"We have flashlights. And I own one, too. I just didn't use it."

[talkyourwayout]

"Oh." Yeah, that was right, huh? She frowned a bit, though it shifted to a smirk quickly. "Well, then you were just being dumb."

[gobetween]

"Which is why I was upset at myself and not at you."

[talkyourwayout]

"Dude, you're doing it again."

[gobetween]

"When I wear myself out getting stuck in tar, have to get half-shaved and soak in oil for two hours just to get it out, nevermind the time spent waiting for my fur to grow back, I think I've earned it for once."

She shook her head. "Maybe? I don't really think so. Besides, it takes all the fun out of messing with you... Or at least most of the fun out of it."

[gobetween]

He did snickersnort some at that, through his nose. "You mess with me any time of the day no matter what."

[getrichquick]

A soft smile. "Yeah, of course I do. It's my job, but that doesn't mean it's always fun."

[gobetween]

"Jobs aren't always fun." Another laugh. "Case in point."

[getrichquick]

"Exactly!" She stretched her arms up, fingers interlocked. "Hey! You know what I just realized? I'm an honorary Fraggle, so I think I should only have to work for thirty minutes a week."

[gobetween]

"What, only thirty minutes a week spent busting my chops?" He snickered some. "I'd be okay with that."

[getrichquick]

"Nah, that's more like volunteer work," she snorted. "I'm usually happy to do that. I mean my, you know, job."

[gobetween]

"Take your Fraggle form permanently, come live with everybody in Fraggle Home. Problem solved."

[getrichquick]

"And stop using money? Yeah, right. Besides, I'm shorter than you in my Fraggle form - no, thank you."

[gobetween]

"You say that like the difference between our heights is even anything significant."

[getrichquick]

She fixed him with a look.

"You may not be much taller than me, but you're still taller than me."

[gobetween]

He backed up into the oil a bit at the look, then huffed slightly.

"So what? Mokey's taller than both of us."

[getrichquick]

"You're right, Mokey and Red are taller than us."

[gobetween]

Alright, now it was his turn to give her a look.

"Anyway, it's not so bad without money. 'Sides all those fun treasures you like are underground, right? Fraggles are practically made for that."

[getrichquick]

She stuck her tongue out in response. As he spoke on, though, her smug expression faded into something lightly puzzled.

"Wait, Gobs- You're joking, right?"

[gobetween]

"What? You know this." He sat up some, spreading his hands. "Fraggles do their best underground. Uncle Scrooge has even used that to his advantage. If you stuck around as a Fraggle, you could," and he started counting on his fingers, "get to more unstable places because you're lighter, see better in dim light, climb rough terrain easier, and heck some Fraggles have better noses than the rest of us, you might even be able to do that... thing Uncle Scrooge can do when his kinds of treasures are close."
