[ Della has rarely visited Gyro's lab. After all, she's never been invited before. (Granted, most of Gyro's visitors weren't invited either.) So when she got a text asking her to come down, she had to admit she was intrigued. After all, these two usually did everything in their power to avoid each other, and even now, Della was reluctant... but the text was vague enough to get her interested.

Cats, curiosity, etc.

When she entered, she put a hand to her beak and called out. ]

Hey, nerd, you in here?

[Gyro wasn't happy about having to ask Della for advice, especially not on such an uncomfortable topic... But the situation with Boyd was a unique one that Della might be able to relate to. That, and he didn't have the patience to try and parse what her brother would say on the matter. Maybe Della would surprise him with some helpful insights.

...Or maybe she was still an immature, annoying little-]

Over here. [The words almost growled out between clenched teeth. He didn't turn from his desk, which had him seated with his back to her, but he did raise a hand in a slight wave.]

[ She heads right for the source, and already tries to lean over his shoulder to see what he's doing. ]

What're you working on? Oxy-chew that actually tastes good?

[ NEVER LETTING THAT GO. EVER. ]

[Her peeking wouldn't reveal much interesting. For once, Gyro wasn't working on an invention, but instead reading over programming files on a tablet. At her question, he rolled his eyes.]

And people call me single-minded... [He locked the tablet screen and looked at Della.] Has your son told you about his new friend?

[Unhelpfully vague because he doesn't actually remember Huey's name!]

[ Yeah, that programming blah blah blah stuff may as well be in another language. She pulls back to give him A Look. ]

You remember I have three sons, right?

[ Still, she does try to think which among them made a friend recently... ah! ]

Oh, you mean BOYD? Yeah, Huey told me all about that awesome time you guys had in Tokyolk! Man, I miss that place. The cat cafes, the bubble tea, destroying a crane game when it wouldn't give me the toy I wanted...

[ focus, big D. ]

[Awesome is not the word Gyro would use, but Boyd seems to have taken away an overall positive impression of the trip as well. Kids.... Apparently.]

I'm sure it's hard for you, but can you try to stay on the matter at hand? [Sigh.] How much did Huey tell you about Boyd's history?

[ She pouts at the insult, but for Huey's sake, she won't slug Gyro... for now. ]

He told me Boyd was messed up by Mark Beaks to think he was his kid, but before that was made by two scientists ages ago. One dude wanted him as a evil weapon, but the other wanted him as a sweet little boy...

[ She then makes a definite 'snrk' sound, followed by chuckles and elbow-ribbing. ]

Then Huey tried convincing me you made Boyd! Hoo, boy! Huey says he's bad at imagination, but I tell you, he is great with jokes.

[ Because there's no way someone as awful as Gyro made something as adorable as Boyd! ]

[He sits up straight at that, looking embarrassed and offended.]

He was serious; I did create Boyd! What makes you think that's a joke?!

[sos_pilot]

... Wait, really?

[ She eyes Gyro up and down. True, he doesn't really lie... he just has a tendency to leave out details he doesn't think are important. ]

... Cause he's sweet and cute and kind, and you're...

[ She sucks air in through her teeth. There's... no way to put it delicately, is there? ]

... Not... exactly... like that.

[jerkchicken]

[He snorts, shaking his head. No, he's not like that, now, but that doesn't mean she should just assume there couldn't be a connection between him and Boyd.]

People change, Della. Now, can we focus here?

[sos_pilot]

[ If he says so... ]

Well, okay, what are we focusing on here? What does Boyd have to do with me?

[jerkchicken]

[Oh, he really doesn't want to have to say it, but... How else is he going to get her help?]

Well... Boyd seems to- He...

[A quiet grunt of frustration.]

When you came back, your eggs had hatched. You had three kids that you didn't really know beforehand... How did you all make that work?

[sos_pilot]

[ At first, Della thinks this is completely off-topic, and tilts her head a bit, confused. ]

Huh? ... Well, for starters, I wanted it to work. I've loved those boys since I first knew I was pregnant. But, yeah, I did imagine them differently when I was on the moon... so I had to learn about them one at a time, each detail at a time, when I got back here. It wasn't easy, and I have messed up... like, a lot. But in the end, we do have stuff in common...

[ tick. tick. tick. ding! ]

... Waiiit a minute. Do you... wanna be Boyd's... dad?

[jerkchicken]

[He sighs as he listens to her, because she makes it sound so- Not easy, but simple, at least. And then she figures it out, and he turns back around to look at the tablet's blank screen.]

It's complicated.

[sos_pilot]

Dawwww! Gyro, that's so cute!

[ Maybe he does have a heart after all! ]

You need to hang out with him more so you two can get to know each other!

[jerkchicken]

[An annoyed snort at her characterizing the situation as cute.]

Like I said, it's complicated. He's been taken in by a different family, and I- Mmm.

I have no idea what I'm doing.

[ OHOHOHOHOHOHO- ]

What's this? Gyro Gearlose admitting he doesn't know something? Have pigs started to -

[ But she cuts herself off before finishing, wincing, and then closing her eyes, muttering and moving her hands down. ]

No, no, pull it back. Think of the kids, think of the kids...

[ Throat clear. Back straight. Eyes open. Let's try this again. ]

What I... mean is... you can still find ways to spend time together. Like... the Junior Woodchucks! You should come with us to their next camp-out!

[jerkchicken]

You're the worst.

[The glare he gives her over his shoulder as he says that is a sight to behold.]

But... That's not a terrible idea, coming from you. [Tit for tat.] I could do that.

[sos_pilot]

[ YES, SHE GOT ONE OVER ON HIM. VALIDATION. VINDICATION. but hold back the grin, hold iiiit. ]

Yes! Good! Do that! We'll get you your own Woodchuck hat and everything! The boys look so adorable in theirs, and I bet Boyd has tons of badges he wants to show off to you!

[jerkchicken]

I'm not getting the hat. I already have a hat. The rest- Well. I think that might be nice.

[sos_pilot]

You can have more than one hat, Gyro.

[ Don't ruin the moment. Speaking of doing that anyway, Della begins poking Gyro in the ribs, teasing him in a sing-song manner. ]

Someone's got a hea~aaaart, someone's got a hea~aaaart!

[jerkchicken]

[No no no he's ticklish that's a (small) part of why he doesn't do hugs...!]

Stop! Della, stop it!

[sos_pilot]

[ The poking will stop, but the teasing will not. ]

Oh man, there are so many parent-kid-stuff we can do together now! Photo albums, Christmas sweaters, brag-offs!

I'm surprised you'd want to do any of those things with me and Boyd. Well, the brag-off, that sounds right...
