Okay, so there are the Chef and Cooking Covens according to Covention (how they differ I have no idea...) but what if like... Demons!Eda somehow got roped into subbing for a home ec class at Kotori's school?

[Substitute teaching. Nope. Not Eda's idea of a good time. She'd never done anything like this before. And Home Ec... Showing a bunch of babies how to bake a cake or make a fruit salad? Or, in this case, teaching them about how magic could be integrated into cooking, which was a waste when some of these knuckleheads didn't even have magic! If they did, it would have been way easier to round up the panicking vegetables...

Ah, but it was all part of "making it up to the public" for her black market work; a way to show she was truly on the path to being a reformed member of society. Or whatever.

Honestly, though, her first class went pretty well, and she even had a period without any students coming up. Maybe this could be managed, although one of the kids staying behind wasn't a good sign for that free time...]

Yes? Is there a problem?

[Take home ec this year, she said. It'll help with your knife skills, she said. Two classes in and this happens... Not only is the teacher kind of intense and sour... dear god... the poor vegetables... the poor STUDENTS. It'll probably be a long time before any of them can look at a squash without a thousand yard stare... Kotori- one of the non-magical knuckleheads- had wondered whether she should even , but... well...]

I-I uh.... well... n-not a problem, I guess, but um... I-I was just wondering, M-Ms. Clawthorne... the uh-the spells you were going to go over... Could you um... wr-write them down, please?

[Since a. they aren't really in the regular lesson plan, and b. they're more for Tsumugi than herself.]

[Eda blinks a couple of times before smirking. A knucklehead interested in learning more about magic was certainly... Interesting, if nothing else.]

Honestly, I'm not sure how much good it'll do you. [Eda's never been one to mince words for the sake of sparing feelings. But if this girl is curious, who's she to stop her from thinking differently than others in her position?] But alright. Let me see your notebook.

[Offer it she shall... if she glances at the cover after closing it (or paid any attention to roll call...), she might notice this girl's an Iida... as in one of a Japanese clan with decent renown for cooking magic. Which might explain the little flinch at Eda's remark before trying to turn it into depreciating laughter.]

Aha... I-I know... it's um... more for a friend of mine... B-but um... I still really appreciate this...

Eh, don't mention it. [She shrugs, playing off both her "good deed" and the moment of sympathy she's now feeling.] Hopefully your - friend can get some use out of it.

[Said without hesitation, because it's a legit request for Tsumugi instead of an "I have this friend" kind of thing. She'll just wait patiently as Eda writes stuff down.]

[Eda finishes writing down the spells and notes, then hands the notebook back to Kotori.]

Hey... Keep at it, okay, kid? Even if the magic might be a lost cause for you. It's not like you need that to know food.

[Words of encouragement...?]

Ah... thank you...?

[Geez, is it that obvious...? Well, she can vent to Shinobu or the Inuzukas later, for how she's going to put the notes back in her--]

[Wait, why is there a fluffy little tail sticking out of her backpack?!]

Eda's eyes followed Kotori's gaze at her surprised exclamation, and she quickly frowned, irritated. She reached over the desk to grab the tail, speaking as she did so.

"Hey! Get out of there!"

"What?!" the little voice of the fluffy, skull-capped creature snapped. "You're the one who brought me along! Well, it's boring!"

Oh... oh no, even with the skeleton motif, he's...

"Cuuute~"

Wait, is that--

"Ah, my curry pan!"

That was supposed to get her through the last two classes, the little jerk!

"First of all, I'm not cute!" he screeched as he wiggled in Eda's grasp. Eventually, he managed to flip up and climb to hang off her shoulder. "And what's with the screaming? Sheesh, I remember when people were happy to leave me offerings!"

Eda sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Sorry about that, Kid... This is King."

If it's any consolation, King, Kotori now finds the cuteness up for debate.

"I... nice to meet you..." Siiiigh... "Well, so much for my snacks..."

"Consider yourself lucky he's not constantly emptying out your cupboards..." Eda muttered, reaching into a pocket and pulling out some change, which she gave to King. "Go get Kotori here something from the vending machine in the hall. And don't go any further than that!"

That earned her a glare from the little guy, who hopped down to the floor and stomped his foot a few times.

"Don't tell me what to do!" he snarled, before getting down on all fours and scurrying towards the classroom door. "I'm going, but not because you said so!"

"E-eh?!" Kotori's eyes follow the ambiguously cute demon pup before snapping back to Eda. "A-are you sure? You don't need to do that!"

Look, more snacks would be AWESOME, but her mom had drilled her well in Japanese manners: you always have to turn down a favor or gift at least once before accepting.

Eda shrugged. "Well, in a perfect world he'd be buying you the snacks from his own pocket, but it's fine." She smirked with a snorting little laugh. "Just means he'll be on cleaning duty an extra day this week."

Oh, well that's... actually really nice of her. Kotori smiles a little more and gives her a light nod of a bow.

"In that case... thank you, Ms. Clawthorne..."

Another shrug, this one a bit embarrassed. "Hey, don't mention it... I'm getting pretty used to the little maniac causing trouble, and that includes cleaning up his messes."

A soft laugh. "I can imagine... He does seem like he'd pretty cute though... when he's not stealing food. He almost reminds me o--"

Of Tsumugi-chan... which she is VERY much not supposed to say in public, let alone school grounds.

"Of um... a-an anime mascot I've seen a couple of times?"

Or the Fraggles maybe, but again, not allowed to talk about them.

Well that was certainly suspicious... She squints a bit at Kotori.

"Is that so? You okay there, Kotori?"

"Y-yeah, I'm fine! Just... hungry is all...! Hard to think on an empty stomach, right?"

... Yeah, no, she is an absolutely horrible liar.

No kidding. Eda sighs wearily. "Look, you don't have to tell me anything. I get wanting to keep things to yourself, but if that's the case, you might want to learn how to lie. Because you're pretty awful at it."

"I-I'm not lying! I'm serious, I'm just... hungry! And really awkward?"

Now THAT she's being honest to god about.

Eda can't help snort-laughing again at that last part.

"Well, that much you've got right. As for the lying, you're probably overthinking it. Try to relax."

"R-right! Of course! I am completely relaxed because I have absolutely nothing to be tense about whatsoever!"

See? The picture of serenity!

"...Sure. Look, if-"

At that moment, though, King returns by kicking the door open as best he can. His arms are full of packages of junk food.

"That stupid machine didn't want to give me anything! Well, I showed it!"

Oh... Oh that is a LOT of snacks.

"Ah... King-kun...? You didn't... break the machine, did you?"

"Of course I did, it gave me no other choice!" King exclaimed as he dropped the snacks at Kotori's feet. "There! You're welcome!"

"I... thank you...?"

She THINKS? Dear god, what does she do NOW, receiving stolen property is a crime too, isn't it?!

Eda sighs, weary as can be. "Well, I'm going to be paying for that... Great."

Oh thank god, Eda won't try to pin it on her! But... still, she does feel bad, oddly.

"I-I'm sorry... This turned into a lot of trouble, didn't it?"

How about some late night Eda and Luz talking about what happened after the season finale? ;u;

I'm sorry I didn't get back to this for for so long omg... But if you're still game, so am I! Maybe Eda catches Luz up and about during the wee hours?

I'm still game! That sounds good to me!

[It's been quite a long, exhausting day, and yet Eda can't find it in her to do as much as lie down yet. The others have managed to get sleep, and she's happy for that, at least-

Until a sound catches her ears, and it's more because of how well she knows the residents of the Owl House than how sharp her hearing is that she can guess who else isn't able to sleep.]

You should be resting, kiddo.

[Luz couldn't sleep, as much as she tried to. While she was not quite victorious in her fight with Belos, it was still too close of a call. All night she tossed and turned, thinking about what would've happened if she hadn't used the right spell, if she took too long, if she...

Well, it all worked out. But almost losing her teacher was causing her a restless night. She has one of her Azura books tucked under her arm, and she nearly jumps out of her skin when she hears Eda's voice.

She offers a weak smile.]

I know. I couldn't get to sleep, so... I thought I'd try a little reading.
